City of Alexandria – Meals on Wheels Volunteer
Volunteers deliver meals to homebound seniors in the City of Alexandria. As meals are delivered, volunteers greet clients and report back any unusual circumstances to the On-Site Volunteer Coordinator, Program Manager or Volunteer Leader of the day. In this way, the volunteer serves as a link between the Division of Aging and Adult Services and the Meals on Wheels clients.  Register online.

Senior Services of Alexandria – Friendly Visitor Volunteer
Through planned weekly visits, volunteers bring friendship and community connections to seniors who are often restricted by their living facilities and/or may lack the local support of friends and family. Register online.

Senior Services of Alexandria – Grocery Delivery Volunteer
Shop for and deliver groceries every other Thursday morning to seniors living within the City of Alexandria. Register online.

Senior Services of Alexandria (SSA) provides a monthly Speaker Series, which offers topics of interests to seniors, including legal issues, financial literacy, health-care education, retirement planning and more. SSA works to ensure that each session has local experts on the topic of discussion and provides the most up-to-date, accurate information for seniors, their family members and caregivers. Senior Services of Alexandria's 11/17 Speaker Series: Living a Purpose-Filled Life: Connecting Mind, Body and Spirit to Obtain Optimal Health. A workshop that explores new approaches to healthcare challenges, including stress management, chronic illness, pain, whole person care and overall well-being. Interactive session on massage therapy, yoga, reiki and other relaxation and stress-reducing techniques. 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Senior Academy – Calling all Seniors 60+

Senior Services of Alexandria is partnering with the City of Alexandria on Senior Academy, a four-week course designed to provide Alexandria’s seniors with an opportunity to gain exposure to the City’s various government functions, learn about local organizations that provide services and programs for our senior community, and help seniors get involved!  Enrollment is limited to 25 City residents ages 60 and older. 

The Academy is a free program with light refreshment each week.  A special graduation ceremony will take place during a City Council meeting at City Hall in October. The topics included are: Getting to know your City; How you can Make a Difference; City Services for Seniors;  Community Resources and Leisure, Cultural and Educational Opportunities.  To learn more or to register for the Senior Academy, you can download the application at or call 703-836-4414, ext. 110.
