Volunteers are the Heart of Alexandria & 35 Years of Service to the Community

More than 170 volunteers, community leaders, donors, and sponsors celebrated our 21st annual Volunteers are the Heart of Alexandria Volunteer Recognition Event and 35 Years of Service to the Alexandria Community and it was FUN!

Congratulations to the 2015 awardees and finalists! Nonprofit organizations nominated their volunteer stars for an award given by Volunteer Alexandria to show their appreciation for their extraordinary and selfless commitment to volunteering. This years awardees are:

Gene Steuerle will receive the Marian Van Landingham Lifetime Achievement Award for his work with ACT for Alexandria
Susanne Arnold will receive the Grassroots Volunteer Service Award for her service with St. Rita’s Church & School and ALIVE!
Steve Nearman will also receive the Grassroots Volunteer Service Award for his work with the Child & Family Network Centers, and 
Isabella Lovain will receive the Youth Volunteer Service Award for her service with the Alexandria Democratic Committee and T.C. Williams

Thank you all for attending our 20th Annual Volunteer Recognition Event, where we once again paid tribute to all who give from the heart to volunteer time and talent. We announced the winners of its annual awards, recognizing individuals in the community for their dedication and service to the city of AlexandriaVal HawkinsPresident and CEO, Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, was selected for the Marian Van Landingham Lifetime Achievement Award. The Youth Volunteer Service Award went to Yahya YazijiThree individuals received the Grassroots Volunteer Service Award: Donald White, Marya Fitzgerald, and Jim Walsh.
