Book Buddies Literacy Tutor
Through the Book Buddies Tutoring model, ATC provides volunteer-based, one-on-one sustained early literacy tutoring to City of Alexandria elementary school children in need. Volunteers are needed work one-on-one with an Alexandria elementary school student, following a provided literacy lesson plan, to improve early literacy skills, writing, spelling and reading skills. Some volunteers tutor a child both sessions. Other volunteers team up with a friend or colleague to meet this commitment. Book Buddies can help arrange partners if that is needed. Tutor Program -Students enter the program in grades K & 1 (ages 5-6) as referred by their classroom teachers. -Volunteers register with ACPS and receive tutor training from a Book Buddies Coordinator. -Two 30-40 minute weekly tutoring sessions are scheduled and take place during or after school -We ask for a one school-year commitment Tutor Need By School John Adams ES: 2x a week, any 30 minute time slot between 8-10am John Adams ES: 2x week, 11:05-11:45 5651 Rayburn Ave, Alexandria, VA 22311 Cora Kelly ES: 2x week, from 1-1:40 3600 Commonwealth Ave, Alexandria, VA 22305 Jefferson Houston ES: 1x week, T,W,or TH- between 2:45- 3:55pm; starting in January 1501 Cameron St, Alexandria, VA 22314 Polk ES: 2x week, 10:15-10:45 5000 Polk Ave, Alexandria, VA 22304 Please send questions to email@example.com, Karen White, Program Director
