RARE After-School Program at Hammond Middle School

Reach and Rise for Excellence, or RARE, is an after-school tutoring and mentoring program for middle school students in need of math help at Hammond Midddle School in Alexandria. We need you to tutor or mentor RARE students once a week during the school year.

TUTORS: You will help RARE students who work daily on VMath Live, an online instructional tool of common core-aligned math instruction. RARE students also need your help to do homework. Come once a week or more or less often, as your schedule permits, and work with a variety of students.

MENTORS: The RARE program offers you one-on-one time with a student once a week to serve as a positive role model. You will be matched with one student and meetings will take place ONLY at school. You and the student decide how to spend your time, whether doing school work, talking, reading or just playing a game.

DAYS/HOURS: The RARE after-school program meets from 3:35 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., from Monday to Thursday. Tutors and mentors engage with students ONLY at these times, and ONLY on campus at Hammond Middle School.

PLACE: An Alexandria City Public School, Hammond Middle School is at 4646 Seminar Road, just east of I-395. Ample parking is available after school buses depart at 3:30 pm each day.
