Colin Powell PosterSeniors are a vibrant part of Alexandria. There are many ways for residents 55+ to be involved in the community—and many ways to assist people 55+. Become a RSVP volunteer, attend a monthly Speaker Series event, or be a volunteer in your community.

RSVP: Your Invitation to Serve - Make an Impact Close to Home
RSVP-Northern Virginia is a local partnership sponsored by Volunteer Alexandria, Volunteer Fairfax, and Volunteer Arlington.  It is a regional volunteer program providing individualized support to connect adults 55+ with service opportunities that impact local needs and result in healthy and vibrant communities. Simply attend a one-time, one-hour RSVP Orientation, complete our online Volunteer Information Form, and RSVP will match you with an activity that is right for you. Individuals choose how, where, and how often they want to serve, with commitments ranging from a few hours to 40 hours per week.

RSVP is America’s largest volunteer network for people age 55 and older and is a program of the
Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). You are cordially invited to join RSVP-Northern Virginia by completing the registration form HERE.

Senior Services of Alexandria (SSA) Speaker Series
SSA provides a monthly Speaker Series, which offers topics of interests to seniors, including legal issues, financial literacy, health-care education, retirement planning and more. SSA works to ensure that each session has local experts on the topic of discussion and provides the most up-to-date, accurate information for seniors, their family members and caregivers. Senior Services of Alexandria in partnership with the City of Alexandria is offering the 3rd Annual Senior Academy starting Wednesday, September 6, 2017, 10 a.m. to noon.  This four-week course, held every Wednesday morning, is designed to provide Alexandria's seniors who are 60+ with an opportunity to gain exposure to the City's various government functions, learn about local organizations that provide services and programs to Alexandria's seniors and help senior get involved! Senior Services of Alexandria and the Alexandria Bar Association are cosponsoring the 2017 Senior Law Day event, “Aging in Alexandria: Planning for Life Transitions,” on Saturday, October 14, 2017, 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. TC Williams High School Auditorium.  Local experts will discuss legal and financial considerations related to life transitions, support services and senior residential living options. The featured speaker will be Thomas West, Partner at Signature Estate and Investment Advisors, LLC.  The event is FREE with light breakfast will be served.
