Snow Buddies Program
The City of Alexandria and Volunteer Alexandria team up to provide snow removal assistance for low-income homeowners or occupants who are elderly or disabled through the "Snow Buddy Program". Volunteer Alexandria will match eligible residents with volunteers who can shovel their snow. Please note that volunteers are required to provide their own snow shovels. The City of Alexandria does not provide shovels for snow removal.
For the “Snow Buddy” program, the Office of Citizen’s Assistance will screen and register residents who earn a low income and are elderly or disabled and need the service of snow removal. They will provide this list to Volunteer Alexandria, who will match Snow Buddy Volunteers to approved residents.
In the event of a Winter Weather Emergency, Transportation and Environmental Services will contact the Office of Communications and Public Information, who will activate the “Snow Buddy” program. The Office of Communications and Public Information will then notify Volunteer Alexandria, who will call and activate Snow Buddy volunteers. 28 volunteers assist 71 residents in need! THANK YOU!

What do our 2016 residents say?
“I’m 92, and I was so scared about how I would get out. You are like angels” – said a resident
“I called to tell you what a great job your volunteer did shoveling the snow from my house. He came on Monday and promised to come back on Tuesday. He actually kept his promise and came back on Tuesday and helped some more. I just wanted to call and let you know how grateful I am to your volunteer and your Snow buddy Program.”
One lady was very appreciative and said "I am so glad that there are people still kind enough to do this for people like me!"
