RSVP Northern Virginia is seeking volunteers to support the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics that takes place Sept. 9-20th.

RSVP is the region’s largest volunteer network for people 55 and older and provides individualized support to seniors seeking service opportunities in and around the City of Alexandria, Fairfax County and  Arlington County.  The NVSO is made up competitors who are 50-years-young or more.
“The senior Olympics epitomizes RSVP in that it encompasses volunteer opportunities for every interest, skill level and schedule and they are available at locations throughout Northern Virginia, said Nadia Hoonan, program manager of RSVP Northern Virginia.
NVSO volunteers fill a variety of roles during the games including keeping score, distributing t-shirts and keeping times. Some volunteers even serve as site managers for  bigger NVSO competitions and direct more than a dozen volunteers at a time. Upon registering, volunteers will be able to choose the activity that best suits their schedule and interests.
In addition to the Olympics, RSVP offers a wide array of volunteer  opportunities throughout the year  that include providing rides, support and meals to older neighbors, assisting local veterans in need and helping prepare communities for disasters.  RSVP volunteers enjoy flexible schedules, free accident and liability insurance while serving, optional mileage and meal reimbursement and are invited to volunteer group projects and social gatherings.

The NVSO is celebrating its 35th anniversary this fall and is one of the largest annual seniors events in the region. To learn more about the NVSO please visit
